Marcus Lemonis, famed billionaire and star of CNBC’s “The Profit”, tied the knot in February with boutique owner Bobbi Raffel in an intimate ceremony at Hotel Bel-Air. The couple met two years ago at a fashion trade show during which, Raffel approached him to request he buy out her fashion boutique, Runway. After some convincing, he did and the rest is history. So what can we learn from this seemingly unexpected pairing?

1.     Love is not a checklist.

Marcus Lemonis is a boss.  A successful entrepreneur. A billionaire. A TV star who is also easy on the eyes. Its safe to say that he has more than his share of potential mates. Needless to say, many were surprised to find that Lemonis chose a much older woman who has a son only four years younger than him.  But what makes a happy pairing? Chances are the couple passed each other’s “deal-breakers test,” not a long checklist of ideals. The more items we add to our list of ideals, the least likely we are to find true love.

2.      There is much love after 50 and 60 and above.

We hear a lot from women saying to our Matchmaking team, “are there men my age who want to date women of the same age?”  The answer is YES!  We are currently making plently matches with our male clients who are 30, 40, 50s, 60s, and 70s who are dating women their age, and in some cases, women who are older than them. We’ve been in the matchmaking business since 2011, and we can honestly share that men are seeking more than just a DOB when looking for a good woman to marry. Marcus and Bobbi, case in point.

3.      Be Confident.

As Wayne Gretzky famously said, “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” The newly-minted Mrs. Lemonis must have been privy to this. When she saw Lemonis at a New York City trade show she boldly approached him to invest in her fashion business. She didn’t know him. They didn’t have any common friends. In fact, Lemonis initially had no interest in her business. But Raffel was persistent and most importantly, confident. She knew she had something unique to bring to the table. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship that turned into much more.
