How I Founded Cinqe Matchmaking in Newport Beach

By Erica Arrechea

Luxury matchmaking often looks effortless from the outside. Beautiful introductions, private dinners, and the quiet excitement of two people meeting for the first time. But behind every introduction is an enormous amount of human intuition, discretion, and relationship building.

When I founded Cinqe Matchmaking in 2010 in Newport Beach, the goal was simple: create a matchmaking service built on real human relationships, not algorithms.

At the time, online dating was exploding. Apps promised convenience and endless choice. But something important was missing. Successful people did not need more profiles. They needed someone they could trust to introduce them to the right person.

That belief became the foundation of Cinqe.

The Moment I Realized Dating Needed a Human Touch

Around 2008, something interesting began happening in my life. I had spent years building relationships across Southern California and was deeply connected within the social circles of both Los Angeles and Newport Beach. I seemed to know everyone, and more importantly, I often knew who was single, who was not, and who might actually be a great match for someone else.

My network had grown naturally through friendships, social events, and years of being part of the California social scene. Without realizing it, I had developed a deep understanding of people, personalities, and compatibility.

One day, a close friend approached me and said something simple:

“I just can’t seem to meet the right person. Can you help me?”

My instinctive response was, “Of course”

Later that evening, I remember thinking to myself, Well, I do know everyone… and I’ve always had a strong sense for who would be great together. My dating knowledge and social awareness had become almost second nature.

The very next day, I sat down and began writing what would become the business plan for Cinqe Matchmaking. I started researching the matchmaking industry, joining professional matchmaking networks, and studying how established firms operated. I wanted to understand the industry deeply so I could build something even better.

At the same time, I began introducing that friend to people in my network. Then another friend asked for help. And another. Before long, I was quietly making introductions for several people within my circle.

Those early matches reinforced something I had already suspected: successful people did not need more dating apps or endless profiles. What they truly wanted was someone they trusted to introduce them to the right person.

Over the next two years, I continued studying the industry, expanding my network, and refining what I believed a modern matchmaking firm should look like. By 2010, the vision had become clear, and I officially launched Cinqe Matchmaking in Newport Beach.

From the beginning, I knew I wanted to do things differently. Many matchmaking companies operated like large agencies where clients rarely interacted with senior matchmakers or the founder. Introductions were often handled by junior staff or large databases.

I believed the opposite approach would work better.

Clients deserved to work directly with experienced matchmakers who truly understood their lives, values, and goals.

That philosophy became the foundation of Cinqe, and it remains central to how we operate today.

Why Newport Beach Was the Perfect Place to Start

Launching a matchmaking firm requires something many people overlook: access to a strong, trusted network.

Newport Beach provided exactly that environment.

The city is home to a remarkable concentration of entrepreneurs, professionals, and families who value both success and lifestyle. The coastal community attracts people who are ambitious yet grounded, social yet private.

For a matchmaking firm built on personal introductions, this was the perfect setting.

From the beginning, Cinqe grew organically through relationships within the Newport Beach community.

  1. Introductions led to referrals.
  2. Referrals led to new clients.
  3. New clients expanded the network.

What started as a local matchmaking practice soon became something much larger.

Building a Matchmaking Network the Right Way

One of the biggest misconceptions about matchmaking is that it relies on large databases.

In reality, successful matchmaking depends on something far more valuable: trust.

From the very beginning, I focused on building a carefully curated network of singles rather than a massive database of profiles.

Every introduction had to meet a certain standard.

That meant:

  1. interviewing people personally
  2. understanding their values and goals
  3. getting to know their personalities beyond a simple profile

I even remember in 2012 when I leased my first office space in Orange County and asked everyone to come in to meet me in person. It seemed like the right way to build relationships at the time. But very quickly I realized it was not practical. The traffic on the 405 made it nearly impossible for people to get there. That was the moment I shifted the process to video calls, which made it far easier for busy professionals to connect with me wherever they were.

Over the years, that network has grown into an extraordinary community of singles across the United States and internationally.

The Philosophy Behind Cinqe Matchmaking

At Cinqe, we believe matchmaking should feel personal, thoughtful, and private.

Successful individuals are used to solving problems efficiently. They run companies, manage teams, and build ambitious careers. Yet dating often becomes the one area of life where they feel they are navigating alone.

Our role is to simplify that process.

Instead of endless searching, we present introductions that have been thoughtfully vetted.

Instead of uncertainty, we provide guidance and support.

Instead of algorithms, we rely on human intuition and experience.

That philosophy has remained the same since the day Cinqe was founded.

From Newport Beach to a Global Matchmaking Network

What began as a boutique firm in Newport Beach has evolved into a global matchmaking service.

Over time, we began working with clients not just in California but across major cities including:

  1. New York
  2. Miami
  3. San Francisco
  4. Denver
  5. Austin
  6. London
  7. Paris
  8. Melbourne

Many of our clients are open to meeting someone outside their immediate city. Successful individuals often live internationally or travel frequently, and they appreciate the opportunity to consider introductions beyond their local dating pool.

Today, Cinqe works with singles throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia.

Yet Newport Beach will always remain the place where it all started.

Why Successful People Still Hire Matchmakers

Despite the rise of dating apps, professional matchmaking continues to grow.

There is a reason for that.

Technology can introduce people, but it cannot truly understand compatibility.

Human matchmakers can.

A great matchmaker notices details that algorithms miss:

  1. communication style
  2. lifestyle alignment
  3. emotional readiness
  4. long term goals

These subtle factors often determine whether two people truly connect.

For successful individuals whose time is valuable, working with a matchmaker simply makes sense.

A Boutique Approach to Matchmaking

Since 2010, I have paid close attention to who the very best matchmakers in the industry are. When I meet someone exceptional, I personally invite them to join Cinqe. We have intentionally remained a boutique firm, but we are incredibly strong as a team. Today, we are proud to have one of the highest matchmaker retention rates in the industry.

One of the most important decisions I made when building Cinqe was to keep the firm intentionally boutique.

Rather than taking on hundreds of clients at once, we focus on maintaining a manageable number of active searches.

This allows us to give each client the attention they deserve.

Clients work directly with experienced matchmakers who know their preferences, understand their personalities, and actively search for introductions that fit their lives.

This approach is very different from large matchmaking agencies where the process can feel impersonal.

At Cinqe, the goal has always been quality over quantity.

The Most Rewarding Part of Matchmaking

People often ask what the most rewarding part of this work is.

The answer is simple: seeing two people build a life together.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of introducing countless couples who went on to form meaningful relationships, marriages, and families.

Matchmaking is ultimately about helping people find connection in a world that can sometimes feel isolating.

When two people meet and realize they are aligned in values, goals, and personality, it reminds me why I started this company in the first place.

The Future of Cinqe Matchmaking

The world of dating continues to evolve, but one thing remains constant.

People still want meaningful relationships.

Today, we use modern technology, social media, thoughtful advertising, professional recruiters, and industry thought leadership to attract unique, exceptional singles from around the world into our network.

As Cinqe continues to grow, our focus remains the same as it was in Newport Beach in 2010: providing thoughtful, private introductions for exceptional singles.

Technology will continue to change the way people meet.

But human intuition, discretion, and genuine connection will always be at the heart of great matchmaking.

A Final Thought From the Founder

Founding Cinqe Matchmaking was never just about creating a company.

It was about building a trusted network where successful people could meet others who share their values and vision for life.

The most meaningful relationships often begin with a simple introduction.

And sometimes, all it takes is the right person making that introduction.
