Thinking about joining a luxury matchmaking database?
Before you fill out an application, there are a few things I wish every single person understood about how professional matchmaking actually works.
As the founder of Cinqe Matchmaking, I've spent 16+ years reviewing applications, introducing thousands of singles, and helping people navigate the world of private matchmaking.
And here's something you should know:
Your application is your first impression. You may not get a second one.
Luxury matchmaking databases work very differently from dating apps. You aren't simply creating an account, uploading a few pictures, and immediately gaining access to thousands of singles.
At a selective matchmaking firm, your application is reviewed by real people who determine whether they'd like to learn more about you.
And because our team receives a significant number of applications, we cannot invite everyone into our private network.
Here's how to give yourself the best opportunity to be considered.

One of the biggest misconceptions about matchmaking is that anyone can join a luxury matchmaking company's private database.
That's simply not how the most selective firms operate.
Unlike dating apps, which are designed to attract as many users as possible, luxury matchmaking companies often maintain smaller, curated networks.
At Cinqe, we work with a limited number of paying clients, and our matchmakers are constantly searching for compatible singles to introduce to them.
Our complimentary database allows interested singles to be considered for potential introductions to those clients.
However, joining our complimentary network is not the same as becoming a paying matchmaking client.
There is no membership fee to be considered for our private network, but there is also no guarantee of acceptance, an interview, an introduction, or a date.
Our matchmakers determine whom to contact based on our clients' individual preferences, relationship goals, and compatibility.
We simply cannot accommodate everyone who applies.
My advice: Treat your application as an opportunity to make a wonderful first impression, not as an automatic enrollment into a dating service.
This is probably the most important piece of advice in this entire guide.
When you hit submit on your initial application, that's it.
You've officially presented yourself to our matchmaking team.
Your short application is what our matchmakers review when determining whether they'd like to invite you to complete a more detailed profile.
And here's the good news: Our initial application isn't complicated.
We aren't asking you to write your autobiography or spend hours answering questions.
We simply want you to complete the requested information and upload excellent photographs.
That's it.
But you'd be surprised how many people rush through this step.
Some submit blurry photographs. Others upload one selfie or leave important information incomplete.
Please don't do that.
If you're genuinely interested in being considered by a luxury matchmaking company, take the extra time to make your application count.
Think of your initial application as your introduction to a professional matchmaker who hasn't met you yet.
Make it count.
I'm going to be very direct about this.
If you don't have good photographs of yourself, please wait to apply.
This is a dating service. Photographs are essential, and at Cinqe, they're non-negotiable.
Our matchmakers need to understand what you look like before considering you for a potential introduction.
We cannot guess.
We cannot determine what you look like from a heavily filtered selfie, a photograph taken in the dark, or a picture where your body is completely hidden.
And we don't have the resources to email every applicant requesting better photographs.
What photographs should you submit?
Ideally, gather four to six excellent photographs of yourself before beginning your application.
Your first photograph should be a beautiful, clear headshot.
This doesn't need to be a professional photograph, but it should clearly show your face.
Smile! We love seeing warmth and personality.
Your remaining photographs should include clear, full-length pictures where we can see your overall appearance and figure.
Include a variety of outfits and settings.
For example:
You don't need expensive clothing, professional hair and makeup, or a glamorous lifestyle.
You do need photographs that accurately and attractively represent you.
What photographs should you avoid?
Please avoid:

One more thing: Please don't submit only serious photographs.
A genuine smile can make a tremendous difference.
Our clients frequently respond to photographs that communicate warmth, happiness, and approachability.
What if you don't have good photographs?
Then please don't apply yet.
Ask a friend to take some pictures.
Use a tripod.
Or hire a local photographer for a short session.
Professional photography isn't required, but quality photographs are.
Our matchmakers assume the photographs you submit are the best photographs you have of yourself.
If your photographs are unclear or incomplete, your application will be removed.
This may sound obvious, but it's worth mentioning.
Please complete every requested field.
Our initial application is intentionally short.
We aren't asking you to spend an entire afternoon filling out forms.
We're simply gathering enough information to determine whether we'd like to learn more about you.
Incomplete applications make that process difficult.
Before submitting, double-check your information, particularly your email address.
Make sure everything is accurate.
Once you're happy with your photographs and answers, hit submit.
And then?
You wait.

This is where many people misunderstand the process.
Submitting an initial application does not mean you've been accepted into our complimentary matchmaking database.
It means you've expressed interest in being considered.
Our matchmakers review applications and may invite selected individuals to complete a more detailed profile.
If we believe there may be an opportunity to consider you for one or more of our paying clients, we may reach out.
But we cannot guarantee that you'll receive an invitation.
We also cannot respond individually to emails asking whether we've received or reviewed an application.
Our team is small, and our priority is actively matchmaking for our paying clients.
Please don't interpret silence as a personal rejection.
It simply means we haven't contacted you.
And remember, matchmaking is about compatibility, timing, geography, relationship goals, and the preferences of the clients we're representing.
It's not a popularity contest.
Congratulations!
If you've received an invitation to complete your full profile, our team would like to learn more about you.
However, this is important:
An invitation to complete your profile does not guarantee that you'll be introduced to a client.
It simply means we'd like additional information.
You may be under consideration for one or more clients, or our team may want to learn more about you for future opportunities.
Complete your application promptly.
At Cinqe, invitations to complete a full profile are time-sensitive.
If you've received one, please don't put it off.
Follow the instructions in your invitation email and complete the requested information before your invitation expires.
Our detailed application includes more than 60 questions designed to help our matchmakers understand your personality, lifestyle, values, and relationship preferences.
Please answer every question thoughtfully.
You don't need to write a novel.
But we do want to get a genuine sense of who you are.
Make sure you understand the login process.
Your invitation email will explain how to access your private application.
At Cinqe:
Please read your invitation email carefully before contacting our team for assistance.

Your photographs get our attention.
Your written profile helps us understand who you are.
And here's my biggest piece of advice:
Be warm, interesting, genuine, and positive.
Tell us about your hobbies, your personality, what brings you happiness, and how you enjoy spending your time.
Are you adventurous?
Do you love cooking?
Are you happiest spending a weekend with family?
Do you enjoy tennis, hiking, traveling, art, music, or quiet evenings at home?
We want to get a sense of the person someone would actually be dating.
What should you avoid?
Don't turn your biography into a résumé.
Your professional accomplishments may be impressive, but a matchmaking profile should help someone imagine a relationship with you.
We already collect your age and other basic information elsewhere in the application.
There's no need to repeat it.
For privacy reasons, please avoid including your full name, personal website, social media links, or other identifying information in your written biography.
A good example:
"I'm someone who loves staying active, exploring new places, and spending quality time with the people closest to me. I enjoy everything from dressing up for a wonderful evening out to cooking dinner at home with friends. I value kindness, laughter, curiosity, and making the most of everyday life. I'm excited about meeting someone with whom I can build a meaningful, loving relationship."
Simple. Warm. Genuine.
That's exactly what we're looking for.
Another common mistake is writing an extremely restrictive list of physical requirements.
Of course, attraction matters.
But our matchmakers already collect information about your preferences.
Your written description is an opportunity to explain the type of relationship you'd like to build.
For example, instead of writing:
"I want a tall, dark-haired, extremely successful man who makes a lot of money and loves luxury travel."
Consider something like:
"I'm hoping to meet a kind, emotionally available man who's excited about building a wonderful life together. Someone who enjoys adventure, values family, loves to laugh, and is genuinely ready for a meaningful relationship."
See the difference?
One describes a checklist.
The other describes a relationship.
At Cinqe, our paying clients are generally accomplished individuals.
You don't need to repeatedly emphasize that you're looking for someone wealthy or successful.
And please avoid phrases such as "looking for a generous man" or making financial expectations the centerpiece of your profile.
We encourage applicants to focus on character, compatibility, emotional connection, and shared values.
The more thoughtful and flexible you are, the more opportunities a matchmaker may be able to consider.

Our matchmakers may review publicly available social media profiles as part of getting to know potential matches.
You may also have the option to share your Instagram handle.
This is optional.
Your social media can provide additional insight into your personality, interests, and lifestyle.
My advice is simple:
Make sure your public online presence represents you accurately.
You don't need to look perfect.
You don't need luxury vacations, designer clothing, or photographs on private jets.
In fact, sometimes the simplest photographs communicate the most.
We want to understand who you are beyond your application.
This is something I encourage everyone to understand before joining any professional matchmaking service.
When you submit an application, you're agreeing to that company's applicable terms and conditions.
At Cinqe, our matchmaking process involves privately presenting profiles and photos with paying clients, former clients, prospective clients, and others within our matchmaking network whom we believe may be a potential match. By applying, you consent to this private sharing for matchmaking purposes.
That may include sharing selected profile information and photographs in accordance with our terms and privacy policies.
This is very different from posting your profile publicly on a dating app.
Our database is private and isn't available for public browsing.
However, private matchmaking does involve sharing relevant information with individuals being considered for an introduction.
Please read our terms, participation requirements, and privacy information carefully before applying.
If you're uncomfortable with your profile being privately shared as part of the matchmaking process, a complimentary matchmaking database may not be the right fit for you.
[Read Cinqe's terms and privacy information here.]

Some applicants feel more comfortable speaking with a professional before submitting an application.
That's completely understandable.
However, luxury matchmaking companies generally reserve complimentary discovery calls for individuals considering paid matchmaking services.
At Cinqe, we offer private, paid consultations for people who would like professional dating advice.
These conversations can include feedback on your dating profile, photographs, relationship goals, and overall approach to dating.
You can also ask questions about whether professional matchmaking might be right for you.
But please understand:
Booking a paid consultation does not guarantee an invitation to our complimentary database, an introduction, or acceptance as a matchmaking client.
Our consultation service is separate from our matchmaking memberships.
[Email us to request a private consultation with Cinqe.]
If one of our matchmakers contacts you about a potential introduction, that's exciting!
It means we've identified someone we believe may be worth considering.
We encourage you to approach the opportunity with curiosity and an open mind.
You are always welcome to decline an introduction that doesn't feel right.
However, please remember that our matchmakers work with a limited number of clients.
If you immediately decline an introduction and ask, "Who else do you have for me?" you may be misunderstanding how complimentary matchmaking works.
Our complimentary network isn't a catalog of available singles.
We contact people when we identify a potential match.
And while we love working with people who are enthusiastic about meeting someone, we also appreciate kindness and respect toward our matchmaking team.
Here's something I want every applicant to understand.
Not hearing from us doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you.
Our clients have individual preferences, and our team can only facilitate introductions when we believe there may be genuine compatibility.
You might be a wonderful person and still not be the right match for someone we're representing.
Timing matters.
Geography matters.
And sometimes, the right opportunity simply hasn't presented itself.
Please don't repeatedly email our matchmakers asking whether we've reviewed your profile.
We cannot provide individual application status updates.
If you're already part of our active database and your profile allows updates, keep your information and photographs current.
And most importantly, continue living your life.
Joining a complimentary matchmaking network should be one opportunity among many to meet someone wonderful.
It shouldn't become your entire dating strategy.
My Final Advice: Take Your Application Seriously
After years in the matchmaking industry, I can tell you that first impressions matter.
Not because we're looking for perfect people.
We're not.
We're looking for individuals who may be wonderful matches for the clients who trust us with their personal lives.
And we can only work with the information you give us.
So before you submit your application, ask yourself:
If the answer is yes, you're ready.
If not, take a little more time.
There's no prize for submitting your application five minutes faster.
A thoughtful, complete application gives our matchmakers the best opportunity to understand who you are.
And remember, no application can guarantee that you'll be selected or introduced to a client.
But you can absolutely control the quality of your first impression.
Wishing you all the best in love,
