Why I Believe You Should Hire a Matchmaker Who Attends the Global Love Conference

By Erica Arrechea, Founder & CEO of Cinqe Matchmaking

What Is the Global Love Conference - and Where Is It?

If you’re considering hiring a professional matchmaker, you may have never heard of the Global Love Conference. But I believe you should know what it is - and whether your matchmaker participates in it.

The Global Love Conference is an annual gathering organized by the Global Love Institute, formerly known as the Matchmaking Institute. It brings together professional matchmakers, dating coaches, relationship experts, and other leaders in the dating industry from around the world.

The conference has brought together thousands of matchmaking and dating-industry professionals since 2007. In 2026, the New York Global Love Conference was held May 6–7 in Manhattan, bringing professionals together for education, networking, sharing industry knowledge, and—something particularly important to our clients at Cinqe - collaboration.

But here’s what I think prospective matchmaking clients really need to understand:

The value of a conference like this isn’t simply what your matchmaker learns in the room.

It’s who your matchmaker knows when they leave it.

Matchmaking is an incredibly relationship-driven business. The connections your matchmaker builds with other respected professionals can directly expand the reach of your search.

And when you’re paying a professional to help find your future partner, who they know can matter just as much as what they know.

Would You Hire a Real Estate Agent Who Only Showed You Their Own Listings?

Think about it this way.

If you were hiring a real estate agent to find your dream home, would you hire someone who said:

“I’ll show you the houses I personally have listed, but I’m not going to look at anyone else’s listings.”

Of course not.

You’d want the agent who knows the market.

The agent who knows other agents.

The agent who hears about opportunities before you do.

And when your dream home isn’t sitting in their own portfolio, you’d expect them to go find it.

So why wouldn’t you expect the same thing from your matchmaker?

What if your perfect match is in another matchmaker’s database?

This is one of the biggest things consumers should understand before choosing a matchmaking service.

I’ve been in this industry for more than 15 years, and I can tell you that great matchmaking isn’t just about how many singles exist in your company’s database.

It’s about how far your matchmaker’s reach extends beyond it.

At Cinqe, we’ve had marriages result from collaborating with other professional matchmakers.

Sometimes the right match is Cinqe client to Cinqe client.

Sometimes it’s a Cinqe client matched with someone in our private complimentary database.

Sometimes we recruit someone specifically for a client.

And sometimes, the right person is connected to another matchmaker entirely.

That’s why we have a network of trusted professional matchmakers we genuinely like, respect and collaborate with.

If we have a particularly difficult search, we don’t simply wait and hope the right person eventually enters our database.

We use our network.

We make calls. We send messages. We talk to colleagues. We recruit. We ask who they know.

Because our job isn’t to find you the best person who happens to already be in our database.

Our job is to find the best person we can possibly find for you.

Your Matchmaker’s Reputation Within the Industry Matters

There’s another side to this that consumers rarely think about.

Your matchmaker can have a long contact list—but those relationships aren’t particularly valuable if nobody wants to work with them.

Matchmaking is an incredibly relationship-driven industry.

Being respected, trusted and liked by other professionals matters.

When I contact another matchmaker and say, “I have an incredible client and I think you may know exactly who we’re looking for,” I want that matchmaker to take my call.

I want them to trust Cinqe.

I want them to know how we operate.

And I want them to be excited to collaborate with us.

Those relationships take years to build.

Attending professional conferences, supporting other matchmakers, exchanging knowledge, referring opportunities and simply being a good industry colleague all contribute to that reputation.

Your matchmaker’s professional relationships can ultimately become part of your search.

A Database Is a Tool. It Isn’t a Network.

When interviewing matchmaking companies, you’ll hear a lot about databases.

How many singles are in the database?

How many people have applied?

How many members are available?

Those are fair questions.

But I would ask another one:

“What happens if my person isn’t in your database?”

Because having thousands of names in software doesn’t mean the right person for you is among them.

At Cinqe, our search doesn’t end where our CRM ends.

We can search our existing network, recruit privately, approach prospective matches and collaborate with other respected professionals.

That distinction matters.

The Other Reason Conferences Matter: Education, Ethics and Accountability

Networking is only one reason I believe serious matchmakers should participate in professional conferences and organizations.

Our industry changes constantly.

Privacy expectations change.

Technology changes.

Matchmaking software changes.

Consumer laws and regulations evolve.

Dating behavior changes.

Recruiting techniques evolve.

And the ethical questions facing professional matchmakers evolve with them.

If you’re trusting someone with extraordinarily private information about your life—your relationship history, finances, family, photographs, dating preferences and future goals—you should want that professional to take continuing education seriously.

At Cinqe, we want to know what’s happening in our profession.

We want to learn about the newest technology and matchmaking software.

We want to understand changing laws and privacy considerations.

We want conversations about ethics and professional standards.

We want to hear research from experts in relationships and human behavior.

And we want to know what other highly respected matchmakers around the world are seeing with their clients.

You cannot be excellent at something if you stop learning about it.

Questions I Would Ask Before Hiring a Matchmaker

Before signing a matchmaking contract, don’t only ask, “How big is your database?”

I would also ask:

Do you attend professional matchmaking conferences?

Do you collaborate with other matchmaking companies?

What happens if my match isn’t already in your database?

Will you actively recruit outside your database for me?

Are you connected with other respected matchmakers around the country—or internationally?

How do you stay current on ethics, privacy, technology and changes within the matchmaking industry?

And perhaps the most revealing question:

“If another matchmaking company had the perfect person for me, would you work with them?”

Listen carefully to the answer.

Because you’re not hiring a matchmaking company to protect its database.

You’re hiring a matchmaker to find your person.

Why This Matters So Much at Cinqe

I’ve been matchmaking for more than 15 years, and one of the greatest assets we’ve built at Cinqe isn’t something you can download from our software.

It’s our relationships.

It’s knowing matchmakers across the country.

It’s knowing who specializes in certain cities, communities and types of clients.

It’s being able to call someone we’ve known for years.

It’s being respected enough that another professional wants to collaborate when we have an exceptional client.

And sometimes it’s sitting next to another matchmaker at a conference in New York and realizing:

“Wait—I think I know someone for your client.”

Those conversations happen.

We’ve seen collaboration with other matchmakers lead to relationships and marriages.

That’s why I believe your matchmaker’s professional network can be just as important as their singles database.

Your perfect match might already be a Cinqe client.

They might be quietly sitting in our private database.

Our recruiting team might find them.

Or they might be represented by another exceptional matchmaker we’ve known for years.

You don’t know where your person is going to come from.

Neither do we.

And that’s exactly why a great matchmaker should be willing—and connected enough—to look everywhere.
